In most hotels in the world there are free bottles of shampoo in the rooms, however, this detail will no longer be welcome in the most populated state in the United States: California.
According to a new law, which will come into effect in 2023, hotels will be prohibited from giving away plastic bottles with shampoo, conditioner, gel or soap.
The rule will come into effect in 2023 for hotels with more than 50 rooms and in 2024 for those with fewer than 50 rooms.
Those who continue giving away the Chile Mobile Number List bottles at their facilities could receive fines of $500 for the first transgression and $2,000 for subsequent violations.
This law is following initiatives similar to those of the largest hotel chains in the world.
For example, the Marriott International hotel said a few weeks ago that it plans to stop using small plastic bottles in its hotel rooms by December 2020.
In his latest blog post, Marriott International President and CEO Arne Sorenson talks about the company's plans to replace tiny, single-use shower toiletry bottles in guestrooms around the world with larger, pump-topped bottles. Serve360
For its part, IHG, owner of brands such as Holiday Inn and Kimpton, reported that it will eliminate about 200 million small bottles by 2021.
Last year, Walt Disney Co. said it would stop offering the small plastic shampoo bottles at all of its resorts and cruise ships.
This law is aligned with the objective of eliminating or reducing plastic packaging on the planet.
In addition, it adds to the ban on plastic bags, straws, and cutlery in different parts of the world. The ultimate goal is for all plastic products to have more than a single use and to be recycled more easily.
The owners of the InterContinental hotel chain did not underestimate the environmental impact caused by the production of the containers and announced that they will seek to remove them from their more than 5,000 hotels. It is estimated that the company uses about 200 million plastic bottles each year.
Previously, hotels are gradually aligning themselves with sustainability, however, in the near future it is likely that in more states and even countries, giving out plastic bottles with shampoo can lead to a financial fine.
So far, ecological alternatives are already being sought, such as larger refillable bottles and ceramic containers, which are expected to completely replace the classic small plastic bottles by 2021.
